Marcy Gordon – Painter
Teaching and painting have formed the bulk of my career as an artist. After graduating from the University of Washington with degrees in fine art and psychology, I taught watercolor illustration for thirteen years for the UW Experimental College where I received a letter of commendation for my classes there. In 1990, after moving to San Diego, Ca., I taught both watercolor and watercolor illustration for the University of California San Diego Extension , both credit and non-credit courses. Over the years, I have taught workshops and classes at over a dozen colleges and universities in both California and Washington State.
My career has included book illustration, a large commission for the VA Hospital in Seattle and many juried and fine art shows and galleries. I am a past member of Whidbey Women Artisans, the American Society of Botanical Artists, Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, San Diego Watercolor Society and the San Diego Art Institute/Museum of the Living Artist where I was awarded a juror’s choice award at the Southern California Regional Exhibit. I was one of the founding members of the San Diego Space 4 Art, an artists’ co-op gallery, live-work and studio space and classroom.
Since moving to Jefferson County in 2012, I was accepted into the artists’ co-op gallery, Gallery 9, where I currently show my watercolors and drawings. I love teaching watercolor as much as painting and also plan to continue that here.
