For the month of December, Sandra Smith-Poling presents recent paintings from Alaska’s Nuuciq Native Spirit Camp and Chenega Bay in Prince William Sound. Sandra and her artist husband spend time there every year teaching the building of model- and full-size Baidarkas (kayaks), which also provides Sandra inspirational subject matter for painting. She says, “The painting of water, reflections and rainy days is always an intriguing challenge. The play of light in the clouds and on the water provides infinite variety to set the mood of a painting.”
Watercolor is Sandra’s first choice in mediums, influenced by the English School of Watercolor, giving her work a freshness and spontaneity. In addition to the Alaskan pieces, Sandra will be showing paintings of Port Townsend, Germany and Cornwall, England. The warmth and welcome of her work will brighten these winter days.
Also featuring new work for December, silver jeweler Roberto Ribeiro introduces his Winter White collection – a dazzling display of pearls, white topaz, cubic zirconia, and sparkling silver including hand-woven silver chains. The pieces in this latest collection feature Roberto’s signature spirals, curves, and braids, along with stunning new, original snowflake designs. Roberto is an original Gallery 9 member artist, and his work embodies his enduring conviction that the finished product reflects the joy of the process.
Join Sandra and Roberto as they discuss their art during Gallery Walk, Saturday, December 3, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Gallery 9, 1012 Water Street, in Port Townsend just a block from the ferry dock. See gallery-9.com or call 379-8881 for more information.
