Gallery 9 Featured Artists for August 6, 2016
“Earth and Sky”
Gallery Nine presents two well-known artists in a show of paintings and jewelry during the month of August.
Judith Komishane’s jewelry features a wide variety of styles and colors, with some necklaces having matching earrings or bracelets. Komishane enjoys finding unusual pendants to use in her necklaces, such as a century-old Chinese hand-painted card which was originally included in a cigarette pack. Others pieces contain vintage pins or earrings converted to pendants and pieces of handmade Mexican tile set in silver.
For this show, Komishane has fashioned a storm clouds necklace and another representing blue skies and fair-weather clouds. Representing earth is a many-ambers necklace and several insect pendant necklaces.
Susan Martin Spar is best known for her classically-painted portraits and still life images with an occasional landscape and will present ten new paintings at Gallery 9 for the month of August. This summer, Susan has focused on atmospheric paintings. “The clouds this spring have been remarkable,” said Susan. “Every day has revealed veritable sculptures of clouds over the Olympic Mountains and Strait. I couldn’t resist painting them.”
Susan received her early training from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and then moved to California where she worked in the graphic arts field. She attended various workshops and classes by well-known artists and then moved to Washington State in 2004 when she became a full-time artist. In 2012, after three years of intensive training in classical and traditional painting, Spar graduated from Georgetown Atelier in Seattle. She now lives and teaches in Port Angeles, WA.
Join Susan, Judith and other gallery artists in discussing their work during Gallery Walk, Saturday, August 6 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Gallery 9, 1012 Water Street, in Port Townsend. See gallery-9.com or call 379-8881 for more information.
