Gallery 9’s November featured artist Gary Rainwater has lived at least three lives — all at once — spanning a 22-year career as a LA fireman; re-building (and building) large boats starting in 1956; and working as a painter and a woodcarver all along the way. You might have toured his restored vessel during the Wooden Boat Festival this year: S. V. Ladyhawk, originally a Danish fishing boat, shows evidence of Rainwater’s artistry throughout.
Rainwater’s array of painting themes stem from these diverse interests, and includes boats, nature and rustic scenes. He likes to paint big and bold, in oils, with a thoughtful hand. His colors this month reflect autumn tones of red and gold, and an accompanying muted palette that conveys the mist and fog of November.
Also during November, Gallery 9 features the beaded jewelry of Judith Komishane. The creativity and inspiration of both these artists reflect the color and natural perfection of the autumn season.
Join Gary Rainwater and Judith Komishane in discussing their art during Gallery Walk, Saturday, November 4, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Gallery 9, 1012 Water Street, in Port Townsend. See gallery-9.com or call 360-379-8881 for more information.
