Gallery 9 Featured Artists for July 2, 2016
Jim Fagiolo – Photography and
Robin McKann – Fine Woodworking
Gallery Nine presents two well-known artists in a show of photography and woodworking during the month of July.
Jim Fagiolo will be featuring his fine-art landscape and studio work, and the show will celebrate Jim’s forty years of dedication to photography and to the local arts community.
Jim’s work explores the advancements of digital technology harmonized with his long career of the study of light and how it translates on light-sensitive materials, to computers, and finally to dye sublimation inks with fine-art inkjet papers. Guided by the work of photographers Minor White and Ansel Adams and their developed technique of “previsualization,” Jim’s work brings out tones and shapes that mostly go unnoticed to the human eye, but can be imagined and recreated internally at the scene by knowing the capabilities of filters, light, and exposure. The beauty and uniqueness of the Pacific Northwest is complemented with the beauty and uniqueness of Jim’s work.
Robin McKann’s intricate woodworking is also highlighted in this show. After decades of building custom cabinetry and finish work in Malibu and Los Angeles, McKann moved to Port Townsend in 2000 and began producing fine furniture of his own designs. McKann and Fagiolo have both been showing they work in Gallery Nine for many years.
Join Robin, Jim and other gallery artists in discussing their work during Gallery Walk, Saturday, July 3, from5:30 to 8 p.m., at Gallery 9, 1012 Water Street, in Port Townsend. See gallery-9.com or call 379-8881 for more information.
