Gallery Nine announces the September opening of new work by two featured artists, Michael Kenney, jewelry and Michael Hale, paintings. “The Two Michaels” is a remarkable reflection of craft and artistry from these Pacific Northwest artists.
Michael Kenney has been designing jewelry for over forty years, culminating in an original approach that brings out the beauty of the stones, and further finished with impeccable metal work. The carefully selected stones are hand cut with diamond lapidary tools, enhancing detail, nuance and delivering optimal clarity. The pieces are one of a kind, carefully crafted to enhance the characteristics of the chosen materials. Kenney treats each stone as the beginning of an outward flow, reaching its final expression as a piece of art worn on the gallery of the human body.
September’s featured painter, Michael Hale, is well known for his vibrant painting on this year’s Wooden Boat Festival poster (available at the Maritime Center), as well as the 2003 edition honoring the event. Hale has lived and painted in Port Townsend for many years, and his work celebrates both his imagination and a sense of place. Hale will also be showing two new large colorful acrylics on canvas as well as some smaller boat-themed pieces.
Join the two Michaels and other gallery artists in discussing their work during Gallery Walk, Saturday, September 3, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Gallery 9, 1012 Water Street, in Port Townsend. See gallery-9.com or call 379-8881 for more information.
