Gallery 9 Featured Artists for August 6, 2016
Gallery Nine is pleased to announce two artists featured for the month of August. Susan Martin Spar (oil paintings) and Judith Komashone (beaded jewelry) are showing new work created under a nature-inspired theme, “Earth and Sky”.
Susan Martin Spar will present ten new paintings, along with her well-known classically-painted portraits and still life images. The new pieces convey a breath-taking and atmospheric feeling, with clouds and light as inspiration. Susan says, “This spring, every day revealed veritable sculptures of clouds over the Olympic Mountains and Strait. I couldn’t resist painting them.”
Susan has been living and painting in Washington since 2004, and is now painting and teaching full-time in Port Angeles. Over the years, Spar has had intensive training in classical and traditional painting including studies with well-known artists, and graduated from Georgetown Atelier in Seattle in 2012. She received her early training from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and worked in the graphic arts field in California before embarking on her Pacific Northwest painting career.
Judith Komishane’s new beaded jewelry work is also influenced by nature’s beauty. Storm clouds, blue skies and peaceful fair weather clouds are represented in multi-hued jewel tones. A many-ambers necklace and several insect pendant necklaces reflect a more earthy inspiration. Some pieces stand alone, while others feature companion pieces such as earrings or bracelets. Komishane also uses found materials in her work, such as a beautiful century-old Chinese hand-painted card. Other pieces contain vintage pins or earrings converted to pendants and pieces of handmade Mexican tile set in silver.
Join Susan, Judith and other gallery artists in discussing their work during Gallery Walk, Saturday, August 6 from5:30 to 8 p.m., at Gallery 9, 1012 Water Street, in Port Townsend. See gallery-9.com or call 379-8881 for more information.
