Gallery Nine Featured Artists for September 3, 2016
Gallery Nine presents a stunning new show in September, themed: “THE TWO MICHAELS”, in recognition of our long-time artist members, Michael Kenney and Michael Hale.
September’s featured painter is Michael Hale, whose work is highly visible around Port Townsend on this year’s Wooden Boat Festival poster, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the event. Hale has lived and painted in Port Townsend for seventeen years, and was chosen as the festival’s poster artist in 2003 as well. His work reflects his imagination and life in Port Townsend, with artistic inspiration from Lawrence Alma-Tadema and Maxfield Parrish. Hale will be displaying two new large acrylics on canvas, both 36″x 50″, as well as a few smaller pieces all related to boats.
Our featured 3-dimensional artist, Michael Kenney, unveils his jewelry as a true art form, with the wearer’s body as the perfect gallery setting. Kenney’s remarkable designs highlight his forty-four years of passion for the art of jewelry creation. The jewelry’s stones are hand cut using diamond lapidary tools, as Kenney seeks to bring out the natural beauty within each unique stone. Kenney sees each stone as the beginning of an outward flow, then follows by designing and complementing in precious metal. Stones include agate, mammoth ivory and other semi-precious wonders.
Join the two Michaels and other gallery artists in discussing their work during Gallery Walk, Saturday, September 3, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Gallery 9, 1012 Water Street, in Port Townsend. See gallery-9.com or call 379-8881 for more information.
