Tom Stewart just added a new drum to his show at Gallery Nine
Drum #188-46B “African Zebra Wood”
Size: 10 inch diameter head
Height: 24 inches
Weight: 8.5 pounds
Skin: Goat (medium thick spine centered)
Price: $750 Plus shipping
Carrying case: Custom case $100 extra
The drum comes with a tuning wrench, a no-skid floor pad and a Conga Joy drumming book written by Bill Matthews.
This is my 46th drum in the B series.
The drum shell is made up of five laminated wood layers. The inside four are kiln dried Douglas fir. The outside finished layer is made from African Zebra wood.
I enjoy working with Zebra wood. I can get some striking mirror images by flip-flopping the 24 laminates that make up the fifth layer.
The drum is finished using 10 rubbed on coats of Polyurethane diluted with 20% thinner and topped with a coat of wax.
The steel anchor band and tuning hooks were electro-plated with polished brass. The tuning nuts, Thread Caps, and hold-down band are solid brass.
I form every thing in my shop except the brass electro-plating. There are approximately 50 man-hours spread over a month to make this kind of drum.
The sound qualities are super. A rich and deep sounding bass, wonderful tones, slaps, and high ringing rim shots.
